Sajia Rahman Sondha

Sajia Rahman Sondha is best known for her mixed media artwork - juxtaposed with multilingual handwritten text- depicting her feminine world inspired by contemporary anecdotes.

Sondha’s paintings frequently portray womanhood and peace as collateral-stimulated by disposable news headlines manufactured in this particular society, as well as personal memories in the form of erratic typography, and urban myths.

Her ongoing artwork series Nature of an Individual Woman investigates the socially imposed silence that humiliates women for having periods. Quoting Sondha about her passion, “My painted universe gives me a sense of freedom since it doesn’t wait for third-party consent. Using textually, I want to evolve a warm dialogue between and beyond binaries.”

Her work has been exhibited at the Asian Biennale, Alliance Française de Dhaka, Shilpakala Academy, Zainul Gallery, Liberation War Museum, and many other galleries. Private collectors and ambassadors from various countries have also acquired her work.

To support her community, Sondha teaches painting and leads workshops as a coordinator. Sondra holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. In 2018 she received Special Category Award for the 2nd Oshino Mount Fuji competition in Japan, Artist Shahid Shaenewaz Award 2020 for participating in the 18 years celebration of UODA, and in 2022 Sajia Rahman Sondha won the Grand Award for the 23rd Young Artist Art Exhibition- 2022 organized by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
